Over 50 world leaders and 5 000 humanitarian, development and political stakeholders gathered to share responsibility to reverse the trend for increasing humanitarian needs and improve the effectiveness of response. The European Union was represented by Kristalina Georgieva, Vice-President of the EC in charge of Budget and Human Resources, Christos Stylianides, Member of the EC in charge of Humanitarian Aid and Crisis Management, and Neven Mimica, Member of the EC in charge of International Cooperation and Development.
The European Union committed to strengthen prevention and preparedness, improve the international response and help find solutions to support an overstrained humanitarian system. It pledged individual commitments concerning policies, programmes and funds it is responsible for.
